Overview
![]() Each year, the Colonial Flag Foundation provides support and guidance to hundreds of organizations across the nation and the globe that have chosen to exhibit their patriotism and increase awareness for a multitude of social issues by presenting one of our programs. All programs encourage local volunteerism and service. Volunteerism is a key component to facilitating the programs and achieving the objective of promoting collective activism and the unification whole communities. The number of people participating in and experiencing a Healing Field alone is often in the tens of thousands. The themes of the Fields differ and promote healing after a local or national disaster, honor military and first responders, and raise awareness for important social issues like: human rights, hunger, disease, literacy, domestic violence and child abuse. Each community customizes the program to meet the specific needs of their individual communities. Recently, the scope and reach of the Foundation has grown to include outreach programs to promote civic learning in schools and further support our troops.

The Healing Field® project and program method is Patent Pending with the US Patent Office and a Trade Mark of the Colonial Flag Foundation The charity’s comprehensive programs and services include:
Domestic Programs ![]() Healing Field Flag Memorial Events Began in 2002, as a way of honoring those who lost their lives in the terrorist attacks of 9/11/01, Fields continue to encourage unity, remembrance and healing. A Field of 3,000 American flags standing in perfect rows with ribbons, photos and bios affixed are a striking and awe-inspiring, temporary memorial. This idea has been expanded to include other themes and has evolved into an awareness tool used to draw attention to social issues that threaten the American values of freedom, pride and prosperity. Themes include: Hunger, Poverty, Disease, Domestic Violence, Literacy, Disaster Relief and Human Rights Education. Fields of Honor pay tribute to those soldiers who have fallen and/or are in our military, protecting our very freedoms. Fields can also feature the addition of one of our other programs like Dear Hero and Operation Thank You were troops are sent messages of support in the field.
First Responder Fields honor the courageous members of our communities who rush towards danger as others flee; selflessly insuring the safety of others. Fields may or may not include a display for those who have fallen in the line of duty. Funds raised by First Responder Fields may be used to purchase protective equipment or enhance community safety programs and education.
Child Abuse Prevention Fields highlight the message that all Americans need to adopt a 0% tolerance for the abuse of America’s most innocent victims. Fields have a long lasting, visual and emotional impact on participants while educating them about child abuse statistics. Most Fields elect to include volunteer-run information booths manned by counselors and social workers.
1776 Flags of Freedom
Participants stroll through a sea of 1,776 flags and learn about American milestones since the signing of the Declaration of Independence. It is an informative, patriotic celebration of our country’s rich history.
Among the displayed flags, statistics and facts regarding Veterans are posted illustrating issues specific to them following their sacrifice to protect America’s founding principles. These fields can also honor our heros from all conflicts involving US troops
The milestone timeline signage and interactive possibilities that can be added to a Field are only limited by imagination and budget. Host communities may opt to increase the educational value of a Field by adding elements that illustrate moments in history specific to the goal of the field. Milestone ideas include: Milestones of Freedom, Milestones of U.S. Military, Milestones of Flight/Travel, Milestones of Technology/Industry, Milestones in State History, Milestones in Arts/Culture, Milestones in Sports History, etc. Add-ons are signage posted throughout the Field indicating amazing, often times, startling facts and statistics associated with the theme of the field. For example, an add-on for a Veteran's Field may include statistics and facts regarding homelessness or health care concerns.
Operation Thank You & Dear Hero
![]() Participants gather at booth where they are able to sponsor a flag to be sent to the troops along with messages of support, a photo of the Field and explanation of the Field it flew on. Children gather at an information booth and are encouraged to sign, draw or write messages to the troops on a large banner. Colonial Flag Foundation facilitates the shipping of the banner to the troops through partnerships with reputable, established fulfillment and service organizations.
Dedication Service or Celebration
A dedication service or celebration is a beautiful, moving, and fun ceremony for a building or a monument that the community has worked together to create. Making a dedication an “event” increases its potential to be a media draw. The funds that the flag sales generate are a great way to raise money for this cause.
![]() Recently, the scope and reach of the Foundation has grown to include the Milestones of Freedom: Many Nations, One America program. The purpose of this program is to enhance civic learning in schools nationwide and to promote patriotic education at Healing Field events.
Find out More Each flag represents one person’s need such as water, literacy, or immunizations.
Imagine the impact of hundreds or thousands of beautiful flags standing atop eight foot poles in perfect rows on a field. This visual display brings a new level of awareness to all those who may have otherwise been ignored. Fields are nonpolitical and are meant to unite all community members behind a cause.
What better way to unite the people of any patriotic country than to honor great heroes past and present by flying the nation’s flag or a custom designed, politically neutral flag? The flags that go home can be proudly displayed as a demonstration of gratitude community and create a sense of unity among the people.
First Responders
First responders to floods, fires, or earthquakes in every country have a profound impact on a community. This Field helps bring much needed financial resources back to an affected area, decreasing the amount of time until people are back on their feet, while honoring the bravery of those protecting the safety of others.
Grant & Funding Programs
Fiscal Agency
Groups that do not have their own 501 (c)(3) status use the Colonial Flag Foundation to
process sponsorship funds and donations. This gives sponsors the added security of our guarantee of fiscal responsibility, accurate accounting practices and the knowledge that the event will be presented as promised. Organizations are charged a nominal fee to cover the cost of administration. For example, programs like Cool Marines, American Veterans Flagpoles & Flag Company & Brandon's Ride use this service to facilitate the fundraising and event coordination and marketing.
Consider our Fiscal Sponsorship to Help you with your project or programsIn some cases, you might find and work with another nonprofit organization that will act as your fiscal sponsor. A fiscal sponsor might be useful to you if your nonprofit:1) Does not have sufficient resources to handle startup costs and fees 2) Does not have sufficient skills initially to manage your finances 3) Will address a community need and then no longer need to exist Micro-Grants
As the Colonial Flag Foundation receives corporate and private sponsorship, some donors have earmarked their contributions to assist host committees in presenting programs in specific areas or bringing awareness to certain issues of interest. We are not a pass-through organization. Any grants Colonial Flag Foundation receives in support of its programs are retained by our organization; allowing us to expand the scope and reach of our programs.
Outreach Programs
Most outreach programs can be done in conjunction with other domestic programs.
Dear Hero
Children gather at an information booth and are encouraged to sign, draw or write messages to the troops on a large banner. Colonial Flag Foundation facilitates the shipping of the banner to the troops through partnerships with reputable, established fulfillment and service organizations.

A multi-media, interactive approach captivates the attention of student who participate in assemblies, are taught mini history and civics lessons, take citizenship tests and are finally administered the Oath of Citizenship. Students are supplied with a packet of materials to share with their families. The program inspires student, faculty and community involvement. Curriculum resources are available for both pre- and post- event instruction.
Utah Freedom Memorial
The Utah Freedom Memorial project is a permanent monument that pays tribute to Utah’s Military members that have paid the ultimate price for freedom during past and present conflicts. The monument has been designed with three main objectives:
1. Celebrate freedom.
2. Educate youth not associated with the military to experience a love for
freedom and an awareness of their opportunities to preserve it, and a respect for
those that defend it.
3. Honor current and past Utah Military members with emphasis on the current war
on terrorism.
Upon completion of the Utah Freedom Memorial, the Colonial Flag Foundation will assess the feasibility of establishing memorials in other states and countries.
