The Exchange Club of Dayton and its Community
Partners will host the Child Abuse Prevention Healing Field Event,
April 1-3, 2005.
OUR MISSION: Through
the display of American flags the Healing Field seeks to create
awareness of the impact and tragic consequences of child abuse and
neglect; to provide critical resources, to celebrate children through
artistic expression, and to spiritually nurture our community.
•
Did you know that in one year, 1400 American children lost their lives
as a result of child abuse and neglect? By comparison, we have lost
more of our children on our own soil than we have lost American
soldiers in Iraq in more than two years. Both are tragic.
•
Here at home, Montgomery County Children Services reported 3654 cases
of child abuse and neglect—in one year—in Montgomery County alone.
•
“To become conscious of child abuse means to know what it is, to
acknowledge its prevalence, to understand how it occurs, and to
actively take steps to protect children.” --Darkness to Light
•
While physical injuries may or may not be immediately visible, abuse
and neglect can have consequences for children, families, and society
that lasts lifetimes, if not generations." --National Clearinghouse on Child Abuse and Neglect Information

Three Days of Free Activities!
Sitting atop a hill, overlooking the Great Miami River and downtown Dayton stands the magnificent Dayton Masonic Center. On Friday, April 1, at 12:00 noon,
our public servants and volunteers will transform the Center property
into a healing field of 1400 flags. These 8’ American flags,
paying tribute to the children who have lost their lives as a result of
maltreatment across the U.S., will stand tall as a symbol of the
enormity of child abuse and neglect.
In an effort to counter this tragic loss, please join us on Saturday, April 2, from 10:00 am until 5:00 pm,
as we celebrate our most precious resource—our children. The Cultural
Arts Community will be on hand to engage children in participating art
programs as well as provide performance entertainment for everyone to
enjoy! Additionally, 28 of Dayton’s outstanding children and
family welfare organizations will be available--providing critical
resource information to visitors. Be sure to be in
attendance at 10:30 am to hear national speakr, Dr. Don Bartlette, present his personal story of resilience.
Sunday, April 3, brings
another opportunity for all to participate as we close our event with
an interfaith service which will be held in the Masonic’s beautiful
auditorium. We invite you to join us at 1:30 PM as Rev. Rod
Kennedy (First Baptist Church of Dayton) and an Interfaith
Coalition spiritually address the issue of child abuse and neglect.
To create this field requires the pre-sale of 1400 flags and/or contributions from sponsors like you. Individuals
or organizations can sponsor this event by purchasing flags at the
levels indicated. The Exchange Club will then donate a certain
number of flags to key stakeholders in our community that are first
responders to abuse. These agencies include child protective
services, law enforcement agencies, the family court system, medical
and mental health providers as well as schools.
All
proceeds from flag sales will go to the Exchange Club of Dayton
Foundation and will be locally distributed to other organizations
participating in child abuse prevention efforts.
Purchase your flag online and support the Dayton Healing Field
Flag pick-up (less than 50) will be from 3:30 to 5:00 p.m., April 3rd, at the Dayton Masonic Center. Delivery to sponsors of 50 or more flags can be arranged.

The Healing field in Dayton, OH is licensed with the National Healing foundation and has exclusivity to the pre determined geographic area for the patented Healing Field Flag display.
