State of Maine Healing Field^®
A State Wide Tribute to our Veterans - November 2007

The State of Maine American Legion, Sons of the American Legion and the Auxiliary will post 2,500 American flags filling Capitol Park and flowing south along Interstate 95 throughout the state of Maine to the New Hampshire border. This memorial is to remember our Veterans and their service given to our country, as well as to honor lives lost in tragedy and to heal us all by encompassing the American spirit.

Join us for the weekend of November 11 for our debut field! This field is a kick off for our larger event in 2008.

The proceeds from this event will benefit the Veterans of the State of Maine.

Debut Field Event Details:

The flags will be up for a period of one week. Sites will set up on Friday, November 9 and Saturday, November 10 with a dedication ceremony on Sunday, November 11. At the conclusion of the field, people may pick up their flag, pole, ribbon, and rebar on Friday, November 16 in Portland and Saturday, November 17 in all other sites or they may donate the flags to be flown on Memorial Day 2008 in Augusta, where again you may pick up your flag after the ceremony. After the Memorial Day celebration, corporate sponsored flags will be donated to a program "A Flag in Every Classroom" in the State of Maine. All other flags not picked up will also be donated to the program.
